About the Artist
Kathryn McGehee started life in the early 1980s traversing the United States as military kids often do. Her childhood spanned seven states, ranging from Washington D.C and Washington state. In 2006, she earned an Associate of Arts and an Associate of Fine Arts from Southwestern Illinois College. In 2011, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Missouri—St. Louis. She currently resides in the St. Louis Metro area, where she is working on the completion of dual bachelor’s degrees in Studio Art and Art Education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). Her work has been on display across the St. Louis Metro area, including the Sheldon Concert Hall and Art Galleries. McGehee is a recipient of the Joseph A. Weber Outstanding Student in Art Education Award, the SIUE Painting and Drawing Award, and a two-time recipient of SIUE’s Art and Design Provost Scholarship. She is also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society at SIUE.
McGeheee has worked in galleries, museums, small publications, tutoring, and childcare. Her pursuit of art has been lifelong, but it was the birth of her daughter in 2015 that ended a decade and a half dry period of not making her own art. Today, McGehee looks forward to a rich career as an art teacher, or an illustrator. Her first children's book What Would A Hero Do? was published in 2021 with author Cat Greenberg, and is available for sale on Amazon. She is currently preparing for her next adventure in art education, teaching community art to the kids at her local YMCA.
